FAB seeks Heritage Committee input on new facility design

Members of FAB (Fund for a new Arena in Beeton) attended the May 7th meeting of the Heritage New Tecumseth Advisory Committee seeking input for the design of the proposed new multi-use recreation facility for Beeton.

Although keeping with the heritage of the downtown core of the historic village was not the initial driving force behind the design process, the proposed position of the building, which would front onto Main Street, has encouraged the group to “ensure that the facade of any approved facility would be in keeping with the surrounding heritage properties”.

“The proposed design has incorporated elements of the neighbouring public library and the newspaper building (formerly the Town Hall) using architectural features such as arched windows, mouldings and matching brick,” FAB told the committee.

The Heritage New Tecumseth Advisory Committee members provided comments with respect to rooflines, windows, brickwork and scale.

“These notes will be forwarded to the Beeton Facility Taskforce at such time as council directs the taskforce members to move forward with the proposed project,” said the committee in its report to council.

The presenters noted that the main goal for the members of FAB is to “provide a multi use facility that will create a vibrant, active downtown core for Beeton”.
