Ever tried your hand at pottery? Well on Family Day everyone can take a turn on the pottery wheel!
Artist Debra Gibbs will be at the Gibson Centre on Monday, February 17 for family day, offering demonstrations in the afternoon and the opportunity for anyone to try it out for themselves.
Gibbs says many people avoid the craft, thinking there’s no way they could do it. But no experience is required, just an open mind and a willingness to have some fun with it.
“I’m sitting right beside you, so you get the benefit of just having fun,” says Gibbs.
Her aim with the Family Day event is just to give people a basic introduction to the world of pottery and show people how much fun it can be.
To take a spin will cost $2, just to cover the cost of the clay.
Gibbs first started on the potters wheel at age 16 and went on to receive her Visual Arts Instructor’s diploma from Seneca College. She now creates FINE Porcelain dinnerware and gifts, creating lightweight and durable products.
Her work is shown in art galleries such as the McMichael Gallery, Canadian Art Collection and the Art Gallery of Ontario, and she has won several awards of excellence for master quality craftsmanship. She also teaches workshops in her studio for all skill levels, no experience necessary.
The Gibson Centre will also feature a magic show on Family Day, beginning at 1:30 p.m. Tickets for the show can be purchased in advance by calling 705-435-2828. A caricaturist will also be there to add to the fun, along with Gibbs and her potter’s wheel. Those activities will run from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Gibson Centre, located at 63 Tupper St. West in Alliston.
