Amazing things can happen when kids have been raised with community perspective. On Aug. 27, Mackenzie, 12, and her sister, Reghan, 10, hosted a lemonade stand at Tottenham Foodland, in conjunction with the Station 3 (Tottenham) Firefighters Fundraiser. The girls collected $50 for the Our Town Food Bank, received by food bank president, Robine Hawkes, at the fire hall. The lemonade stand was an alternative fundraiser to the garage sale they had initially proposed to their parents, and their lemonade sold for 50¢ a glass. The girls’ mom, Melissa Richardson, says the firefighters – who raised $221 and collected several pounds of food for the food bank that day themselves – were her daughters’ biggest supporters. Way to go Tottenham for supporting such a great cause, and helping these budding philanthropists along the way.
