For the sixth straight year, the Gibson Centre in Alliston welcomed in the whole community, restaurants and all, for their biggest fundraiser of the year.
This year the Taste of the Town featured nearly 30 restaurants from all over New Tecumseth, including a few new ones.
The event is the biggest fundraiser event of the year for the Gibson Centre, which is involved with providing space for local art, shows, concerts and more.
“We fundraise for the Gibson Centre, because it is a not for profit charitable organization. It’s not owned by the town, it is indeed a privately owned corporation,” said Gibson Centre general manager, Jennifer Fortin. “We’re fundraising for children’s theatre programming, for the Canadian musicians and performances, so that we can bring them in as well as the arts.”
The night featured live entertainment, music, a giant silent auction and of course plenty of gourmet food and sweets. Fortin said the goal is to always keep the event local in terms of food, talent and auction items to showcase businesses from all over Alliston, Beeton and Tottenham.
This year the event surpassed expectations in terms of visitors and participation and Fortin said all of the feedback was positive. “People are always surprised to see what a beautiful building it is and secondly they’re thrilled to see the new restaurants, because we do have three new ones here in town and they’re here,” she said. “The restaurants are always surprised about how many people come. It’s a very popular fundraiser.”
