Golden Guider

Dear members of the awards committee:

It gives me great pleasure to write this letter in support of the application for the Gold Guider Award for Marilyn Pearce.

I have known Marilyn Pearce since 2008. She is a dedicated guider who has given her time to guiding wholeheartedly for the past 30 years. She has taken on the role of Guide leader, opened and run a new Pathfinder unit of 12 girls, as our previous units were very small and then ended up closing, and she is currently planning to open a new Ranger unit next year for our small town  of Tottenham.

Over the years Marilyn Pearce has tirelessly planned and executed exciting camps, interesting meetings, fun crafts like  make your own chair and exciting outings like treetop trekking, laser tag and glow-in-the-dark golf which keep the girls returning to guiding. She also keeps looking for new and exciting cookie selling opportunities like going to the Sportsman Show.

Marilyn has also been our unit treasurer and makes sure that she always orders everything she needs to order on time, like badges or certificates. Marilyn always ensures that each girl completes the required elements she needs to advance and keeps meticulous records.

Marilyn has tirelessly fundraised for the past three years so we can allow the girls the opportunity to go to Europe to visit Pax Lodge. She has run dances, bake sales, craft sales and acquired donations and volunteer opportunities for our fundraising.

Marilyn’s family also participates in Guiding events and fully support her by volunteering their time. Marilyn is also an active member of her Church community, not only attending mass, but participating in community events like helping to serve at community dinners, participating in community clean-up and tree planting. Marilyn manages to do all this while holding a full-time job which she works 5 days a week rain, snow blizzard or sunshine.

Marilyn Pearce exemplifies what it means to be a Guider, a sister, community member and a friend. I hope you will consider Marilyn Pearce for the Gold Guider Award.
