Harmonia Concert

June 1, 2013   ·   0 Comments

Canadiana was the focus of the second concert in the Glad Tidings spring series hosted by Tottenham’s Church of the Evangelists at their St. John’s Chapel. The Harmonia Choir returned again this year with a programme featuring music from across our land – from the traditional Land of the Silver Birch to Stompin’ Tom’s Roll On Saskatchewan to soloist Sunyatta Guild performing I’ll Never Smile Again made famous by Frank Sinatra but written by Torontonian Ruth Lowe.  The songs highlighted the diversity of our country, not just in geography and history, but also in the variety of our musical heritage. The choir was led by Lorne Derraugh and soloists included Tim Miller, Monica Baz, Nanette Seaman, Sunyatta Guild, Naomi Simpson and Bill Hall with Sean Derraugh on clarinet performing Moe Koffman’s Swingin’ Shepard Blues and Jerry Switzer accompanying on the steel guitar. As the Harmonia Choir kindly donated their time and talents, all revenue from the ticket sales could go to the church and the Tottenham Food Bank. Rev Naomi Miller believes that music is a wonderful way to bring a community together and what better location than in the beautiful chapel that has brought people together in music and prayer for over a century and a half.
