Historic plaques should be front and centre

Dear editor:

I recently attended a meeting with Ontario Heritage representatives for our area. Their mandate is the preservation of the Main Street and the up-keep of the buildings. These are worth while projects.

I might suggest the following: Remove the wooden statue in front of the library and replace it with the Ontario Historical plaque which is now in the park. This plaque is lost in the bushes and few ever see it. If it was outside the library all could read it and know why the library is named for D.A. Jones.

Also, I would suggest the removal of the Kate Aitken plaque in the park and place it on the south-west corner of Beeton’s main intersection. There it would be only a few feet from Kate’s home – a building which still stands – the Robert Scott General Store.

Something to think about.
