Hornets start pre–season with two wins

The pre-season may not mean much at the end of the year, but it is the best way to try out the new roster and see what they can do.
The Alliston Hornets Junior C Club played their first two pre-season games coming out on top both times with back to back wins over the Caledon Golden Hawks.
In game one on August 18, the Hornets were leading 5–0 going into the third period The Alliston squad finally gave one up with less than two minutes left on the clock and the Hawks avoided being shut-out in their first game of the season.
The final was 5–1 for the Hornets.
Game two on August 22, saw the Golden Hawks open the scoring in the first period with a pair of goals by the midway mark.
Alliston responded in the second period with three to lead by a goal going into the final 20 minutes.
Both squads scored a single in the third period to end the game 4–3 in favour of the Hornets.
The Alliston club is still working on the roster with final cuts yet to come and it’s obviously they are putting player through their paces while deciding on the final 23 who will make the cut.
Prospect goalies Alex Traikos and Sara Stephens were between the pipes for the first two games with Traikos playing the full 60 in game one and Stephens taking the win in the full three periods of game two.
This coming weekend the Hornets will host their 8th annual Junior C tournament featuring competing squads from the Georgian Mid Ontario Junior C Hockey League as well as club from other Ontario Leagues.
Sixteen teams have signed up for the tournament that will get underway on this Friday, September 5, with the first games scheduled at 5 p.m. between Alliston and Georgina.
The action will continue all Friday night with games scheduled in both arenas at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre.
Games are scheduled all day on Saturday (Sept. 6) beginning at 9 a.m. and going right through until 9:45.
When the dust settles, the top four teams will play off on Sunday, with the final game scheduled for 3 p.m. in the main rink.
