The Alliston Hornets notched another game on the plus side with an 8–1 win over the Midland Flyers on Friday (Oct. 3) night on home ice at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre.
It didn’t take long for the Hornets to take command of the game after dominating the first period and scoring three to Midland’s one.
The Alliston squad played a solid defensive game and barely let the Flyers cross the blue line for the entire 20 minutes.
The Hornets Matt Hamilton, Ben Skuce, and Dakot Brooks scored the first period goals.
Returning for the second, Ryan Marks scored number four for the Hornets at 5:11 into the frame.
That was followed by one more from David Leblanc with just under two minutes remaining.
The Alliston squad ended the night with three more in the final twenty minutes from Brooks, Darren Nesbitt and Brendan Spencer on a powerplay effort.
The win brings the Hornets record to 5-1 for the season.
In the early going in the Georgian Mid Ontario Hockey League, the Schomberg Cougars are in the lead with 12 points after eight games.
They are followed by the Penetang Kings with 12 points after 7 games, and Alliston in third place with 11 points after five games into the season.
It’s still early, and it’s going to take a few more weeks to see how the league starts to shape up.
The Hornets will travel to Stayner on Thursday, October 10, to face the Siskins.
They return to home ice in Alliston on Friday, October 11, to host the Huntsville Otters.
Game time is 7:30 p.m.
