The official launch of the 2014 International Plowing Match (IPM) is Saturday June 1, 11 a.m. at the farm of Barry and Ivan Degeer, Ivy, the site of the IPM.
Pipes and drums, a team of horses, and an antique tractor and plow will lead the procession from the Essa and District Agricultural Society grounds to the IPM site across the road. Dignitaries from various governments and agricultural communities will be in attendance for the brief ceremony. The children’s choir from Baxter Public School will also be participating.
A special tribute will be made to Keith Robinson of Cookstown who is preparing to plow in his 65th plowing match in 2014. Robinson will unveil a large sign announcing the location of the 2014 IPM being held Sept. 16 to 20, 2014.
A reception with light refreshments will be served at the Essa and District Agricultural Grounds. Everyone is invited. There is no charge. Free parking is available at the agricultural grounds.
