The Alliston Hornets / Walkerton Hawks series may be the focus of local hockey fans, but there are still other Junior C leagues hammering it out around the province on the road to the Ontario Junior C Schmalz Cup championship.
In the Windsor area, the Essex 73’s have already finished their series with a four game sweep over the Ayr Centennials and are now waiting for the outcome of the Niagara District championship between the defending champion Grimsby Peach Kings and the New Hamburg Firebirds.
The Peach Kings went ahead 2–1 after winning game three on Sunday in overtime.
In the east, the Lakefield Chiefs of the Central League are leading the Picton Pirates of the Empire B League two games to one.
If the Alliston Hornets are successful in their series against Walkerton, the next stop will be the semi-final against the winner of the Lakefield / Picton series.
That series is scheduled to wrap up on April 1, if it goes the full seven games.
