Lack of tanker accreditation may increase insurance rates in Adj–Tos

April 11, 2013   ·   0 Comments

Changes to the provincial legislation regarding fire tanker accreditation will likely see the insurance for some Adjala-Tosorontio resident go up.

Lisle area councillor Scott Anderson said that he recently learned from a local resident about the change in accreditation for the township tankers. “I was surprised not to have a report on this change or the program. The Township doesn’t seem to be meeting the standards,” he said.

Councillor Sam Keenan said that the accreditation program from the province has tightened up its requirements in recent years. “A lot depends on the distance from the fire hall to a resident in terms of calculating insurance,” he said.

“And the ability to use standby pumpers and tankers from neighbouring municipalities has changed,” he adds.

Councillor Doug Little said that he understood the change in using pumpers and tankers under Mutual Aid has changed.

“Honestly, I don’t think that we will be able to reach our previous level in terms of accreditation.”
