Lobster Fest at The Whistle Stop – Beeton

September 13, 2013   ·   0 Comments

It’s something a lot of people look forward to and it’s coming up fast. The Whistle Stop  is preparing to host its annual fall Lobster Fest on Thursday Sept. 19.

The dinner features an approximate 1.5 pound fresh lobster from Nova Scotia, oven roasted potatoes and vegetables, baskets of garlic bread and warm garlic butter for dipping.

“Our lobsters are always live, fresh and flown in for us for the day,” explained owner, Clara Viscardi. “They don’t sit in a tank here so they don’t lose that sweetness of the ocean water. They come in and we cook them that night by the order.”

The Whistle Stop has been a favourite for many in the area since it opened in 1994 and Viscardi has hosted lobster dinners for the past 14 years. She also holds one in May when the ice opens up in Newfoundland with Newfoundland lobsters and said it’s something people look forward to every year.

“We have friends from down east and the first time I said to them that this was something we would like to try. They helped me get in contact with a Downeast  fishmonger from the city that can fly-in fresh seafood for the big hotels and restaurants. You really can’t get them any fresher.”

The Whistle Stop is always looking to provide different things for its customers, which is why they started Lobster Fest, Wild Game Night and wine tasting events throughout the year. They are supporters of  fresh, local and Ontario products such as Hockley Valley beer and Ontario Wineries.  Both an excellent accompaniment to lobster dinners.

The wine tasting nights are also a favourite and include a five course gourmet meal accompanied by wine and a chance to interact with representatives from different wineries, mostly from Ontario.

“They’re great nights that people like to come to,” Viscardi said. “You can just sit and enjoy the wine or ask questions.”

As for this week’s Lobster Fest, spaces are limited and those interested should call in to make a reservation at 905 729-0399.  Or visit www.whistlestopbeeton.com for more information.

“The dinners are always sold out,” Viscardi added. “Most of the time we have waiting lists for them, so the response has always been big. We’re known for our lobsters and a lot of people tell me they’re the best they’ve had, but that of course is because they’ve never been in a tank.”
