Country music artist Nicole Scott of New Tec has been working hard and is garnering attention from some of the big movers in the industry.
From a singing harmony on Toby Keith’s newest single to writing with a bevy of Nashville’s top talent, the budding country star is also gearing up for the release of her new summer record. Her first single “Words” is already available for download on iTunes.
Scott explained the important meaning behind “Words” and hopes it resonates with her fans.
“As an artist and also a former victim of bullying, I have had to learn to let others words slide off my back, both good and bad. It is important for me as I make my way up in the music industry to not only ignore the bad, but to not let the good words balloon my ego and change my focus,” she said.
“When we sat down to write that particular day I told Bruce Wallace [songwriter] I finally wanted to write my anti bullying song, but in a unique way. I think we have all let hateful words into our hearts at one time or another, and really let someone else’s negativity deeply affect our self esteem. I wanted to write a song that could speak to anyone feeling put down for any reason. I hope other people can see themselves in this song, and connect, because really that is what music is all about, sharing experiences and connecting us all.”
In addition to the release of her new album, Scott is keeping very busy. Recently she joined country star Toby Keith to sing harmonies on his new single “Drinks After Work.”
“I was asked by the producer and engineer, Grammy award winner Mills Logan, to come over late one evening and give the song a try, and within an hour in the studio, it was done,” she said. “It has been a great honor to be a part of such a big song and I love watching it climb the charts! He is certainly the biggest artist I whose work I have sung on to date!”
Scott has also worked with many other artists recently and said she has been working hand in hand with industry heavyweight Ole Publishing [whose signed acts include Timbaland, Steven Tyler] as a writer.
“I spend most of my days writing with other writers both for my own record and for other artists records,” she said. “The entire list of my co writers would be impossible to name but I have certainly had the pleasure of writing with some incredible artists and writers.”
Although her home is Tottenham and always will be, Scott said she will be forever grateful for what Nashville has given her in the growth of her career.
“Nashville has totally changed my life. To have a city where I am completely understood has been life changing. I am so lucky to be able to make frequent trips to the music mecca of the world and to really spend time there, make dear friends, and expand my career past what I ever thought possible,” she said.
“Growing up in Tottenham was so beautiful in so many ways, but as an artist it can also get lonely when none of your friends and family can quite relate to the emotional process of trying to ‘make it’ in the industry. In Nashville I am able to deeply connect with other young artists who know exactly how that feels and really all anyone wants is to be understood. For that alone I am so grateful to Nashville, Tennessee.”
