The Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) holds an election on April 16 to determine the three student trustees who will represent their school communities for the 2014–15 school year.
SCDSB Policy 2130, Student Representation on the board, requires that three pupil representatives (Student Trustees) be elected by their peers by April 30 each school year to represent the interests of students on the board for the following school year. One student trustee is elected from each of the three geographic regions within the board: north and east, central and south, south and west.
“Student trustees are leaders who bring student perspective to board discussions,” said Paula Murphy, Superintendent of Education. “They’re integral to bring student opinion and issues to the forefront so that we are aware of how students are thinking and feeling in schools across Simcoe County.”
Eligible candidates are full-time Grade 11 or 12 students who have achieved a minimum overall average of 60 per cent in the current school year. For more information, contact your school’s vice-principal. The deadline for school-level applications is April 8.
Student trustee candidates selected by student councils will stand for election by members of the Student Senate on April 16 at 7 p.m. at the SCDSB Education Centre (1170 Highway 26 in Midhurst). At that time, three student trustees will be elected, one per region, to sit on the board next school year.
