Essa township is continuing its search for a new fire chief.
Long time Paul Macdonald submitted his letter of resignation at the last council meeting on October 30.
Macdonald, who indicated last spring that he would be retiring later this year, formally submitted his letter of resignation. He has been a volunteer firefighter with the township for the past 35 years and served as township fire chief for the past 15 years.
He noted that “I am extremely proud of our Fire Department, administrative assistant, firefighters and officers. They are a reliable and dedicated staff committed to providing a quality emergency service to our residents.”
Mayor Terry Dowdall said that the retiring chief had been exemplary in serving the township and its residents over his career.
“You put in so many hours. Its not an easy thing to do. Your certainly are a special person who did your job exceedingly well,” he said.
