March Break movies at Circle Theatre benefit Stevenson Memorial

The Circle Theatre in Alliston offered some fun for the kids during the P.A. day on Friday, helping the Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation at the same time.

To help support the foundation’s It Takes You campaign, Circle Theatre hosted a matinee showing of Disney’s 2012 Wreck-It Ralph. Admission for the show was a donation to the fundraiser, which bought a paper cutout of Scrubs, the teddy bear ambassador for It Takes You.

For the entire month of March, those paper Scrubs bears can be purchased for a donation of $2 or $5. The bears have already started to line the walls in the theatre’s lobby, which they hope to cover by the end of the month.

During March Break the theatre is also hosting their first annual Kids Academy Awards. From Monday to Friday at 10:30 a.m. one of the top five movies of 2013 will be featured, with something different showing each day. It’s a great outing for kids relaxing during their week off.

Categories for the top five picks are best prehistoric puns, best fantasy costume, best alien adventure, best friendship story, and best minions.

For the Kids Academy Awards showings, admission will be a $2 or $5 donation to purchase a paper Scrubs bear, that kids can write their names on and have them added to the growing collection.

Circle Theatre got involved when the foundation reached out and asked if they would host a third party fundraiser. Kristan Barata from the Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation says the owners of the Circle Theatre were eager to help and went above and beyond what was expected by organizing a fantastic month-long campaign.

“I can’t stress enough how thankful we are to local organizations and businesses who support us,” says Barata.

Stefani Dubbledam, one of the managers at Circle Theatre says owner Kate Vander Zaag has an amazing heart that has always extended into her business. Their involvement was all about finding a way to give back to a community that has support Circle Theatre so much since its reopening in 2012.

“We have gotten so much from the community and when someone reaches out to us we just want to reach back,” says Dubbledam.

Escape From Planet Earth plays at 10:30 a.m. today, Wednesday, March 12. Monsters University plays at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 13 and Despicable Me 2 plays at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 14, the last feature for the Kids Academy Awards.
