Meet Your Neighbour Picnic bigger than ever

August 21, 2013   ·   0 Comments

Beeton Park was buzzing on Sunday, as people filled the area for the annual Meet your Neighbour Picnic.

There was everything from a baseball tournament, to a pancake breakfast, vendors, tons of children’s activities, a washer toss tournament, a barbecue, live music throughout the day, lawn bowling, a corn roast and much more.

Organizers Colin Thain and Sherry Cheetham said a lot of work has gone into revamping the event that has been around for so long.

“We’ve definitely revamped it,” said Thain. “We’re already talking about next year and what we’re going to do to improve it. The vendors is a new thing, we’ve got 20 or 30 out.”

Cheetham said the Beeton mixed slo-pitch league has taken over organizing the event and the hope it so keep is growing each year.

“Every year it just keeps getting bigger,” she said. “More vendors, people, more baseball teams, activities and entertainment. Next year will be the 25th anniversary for this, so it will be bigger and better.”

The event is a fundraiser to help offset the increasing costs for the slo-pitch league and to also help give it exposure.

“Basically it’s to get everyone in the community out, young and old,” Thain added. “Everyone has been energetic to the event and each year we’re going to make it better and better.”

On top of everything else, there were raffle prizes, including a shiny new bicycle.

Both sent out thanks to their many sponsors who have helped with the event.
