The season came to a screeching halt this past weekend as the Ken Beattie Limited Minor Atom AA’s sponsored by ScotiaBank run for the O.M.H.A. championship was ended by one.
Game three saw our boys come out to a capacity crowd and announced like the super stars they are. An amazing rendition of OH Canada was sang by an incredible talent, Amanda Guchardi. Thank you very much. Then the puck was dropped.
In the first, the visitors started strong as he took a 2–0 lead before it was split in half by Steven “Sniper” Mercer on assists to Cole Turcotte and Jacob Holmes. 2–1 after one.
In the second, the visiting team scored two more but it was answered by three beauts of our own to tie the frame heading into the flood. Goals scored by Wylie “the Wizard” Birkett with 2 and Mitch “Soft Hands” Smilsky with a dandy. Assists by Turcotte (2), Holmes and Jackson Vojin.
In the third, our boys attacked. They had the momentum and were on the verge of breaking this game open. But in the end, the refs took over and game our innocent boys 2 men down twice that the visitors capitalized on. In the end it was a 7–4 final and a 2–1 series lead for the team not wanting to be announced.
Game 4 saw another huge crowd in hopes of seeing their young phenoms right the ship and do what the world expected them to do. Again, our boys had to contend with dirty play and non-calls but this is what make amateur sports fun.
In the first, there was no scoring but great saves by both keepers. Scotty “Balls” Barnett stepped up to give us a chance. 0–0 after one but TNT had the momentum.
In the second, ours boys made 3 mistakes. All 3 found there way into the back of the net. Scoring for us was ole “Shoots like a Cannon” Turcotte to make the score 2–1 but after the buzzer it was 3–1 visitors.
In the third our boys proved they had heart as they cycled down low and kept the other team hemmed in. The never gave up and never quit. One goal would have got them back in it for sure. They created chances but could not “buy” one past the boy in red. As the clocked ticked down, the game was over and so was the season.
Great job boys, you are amazing to watch. You will want it more next year.
I would like to thank all the coaches and parents for this long but incredible journey. We love to win but we truly won the battle. Most importantly our young phenoms. To see you smile makes me smile, to see you laugh warms my heart. For this I thank you and hope to see you all out for try-outs in May because next year we will be back better than ever!
