Misfit Militia back up their RDAC dominance

June 27, 2013   ·   0 Comments

Alliston’s Misfits Militia, recently crowned the RDAC East Regional Champions, were at it again on Saturday. This latest contest saw the Misfits take on the rival Brute-Leggers out of Royal City Roller Girls in Guelph.

The Sleeman Centre provided the backdrop for the third match-up between these two storied travel teams, with each team owning one win apiece. The Brute-Leggers are the last team to have defeated the Misfit Militia. The first time the two teams met was at last year’s RDAC East Regional Tournament, which saw the Misfits suffer a second half collapse and lose to the Brute-Leggers by 61 points. Back in September 2012, the Misfits and the Brute-Leggers squared off for a second time, this time the Misfits were able to avenge the first defeat by trouncing the Brute-Leggers by 155 points.

This third match was a chance for the Brute-Leggers to even the score, although it was not to be. The Misfits employed their constant and unrelenting defense against the Brute-Leggers and started the game off with momentum almost immediately. After a quick 4-0 jam by Randy-Roll-Lin, the Brute-Leggers ran into some penalty trouble with their jammer, which allowed Smoka-Cola to notch a 25 point jam while the opposing jammer had to sit in the box and watch. Zombabe came out for the Misfits and posted another quick 5 points to make the score 34-0 after the first three jams. With the high powered offence firing on all cylinders, team captain Renny Rumble was able to focus her blockers on a suffocating defensive tactic built to hold the opposing jammers and draw penalties. The tactics worked perfectly, and allowed the Militia to build a first half lead of nearly 200 points.

Taking nothing for granted, the Misfit Militia blocking core, lead by Renny Rumble, Nancy Noir and Dezz-STROYHer, were able to hold the Brute-Leggers to a minuscule 10 points in the second half. The key for success of the Militia this season has come with the development of that strong blocking core. MadMegz and Terry Bomb have developed into solid blockers, with MadMegz taking on some jamming duties, and have facilitated the growth and development of new additions Slah N’ Burn, Mandi Blaze and Red Hot, who has also seen some time with the jammer star.

With the blocking core staying solid and with relatively few penalty troubles, the Misfit jammers continued their punishing brand of offense and continued to put up points at a breakneck pace.

The final score of the bout finished up as 427-60.

After the bout, both team headed up to the after party and the team MVP’s for the bout, Nancy Noir for the Militia and the Brute-Leggers’ Hot Cross Guns, who fought against a tough defense all night long, were able to enjoy the fruits of their labour.

Keep your eyes out for the Misfit Militia, who are proving to be a very dominant force in Roller Derby in Ontario and are making waves with their current #7 ranking in Canadian travel teams.
