After hearing from a delegation on the problems with the depositing of fill on properties throughout Southern Ontario, Adjala-Tosorontio mayor Tom Walsh has asked for more municipal control over the placement of fill in their municipalities.
Walsh told his fellow county councillors at the Corporate Services committee last week that fill is being brought continually into the southern part of the county from building projects to the south.
“A lot of it seems to be brought in on Saturdays and Sundays when there isn’t as much enforcement around.”
“We are supposed to have the Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority involved in regulating fill but sometimes they don’t seem to be able to monitor it very well,” he said.
County councillors also gave their support to a resolution from New Tecumseth which focused on the need for more local control over the expansion of airports in their facilities. Currently, airports are a matter of federal jurisdiction.
