Music usually helps people take a trip down memory lane, enabling them to recapture certain moments in their life. Growing up everyone had a favorite musician, and specific songs bring back great memories. Musicians such as; Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, Elton John, Frank Sinatra, James Brown, The Beatles, and many more, represent eras that the majority of adults can relate to. When thinking back on milestones that occurred within ones life, music is always involved. Regardless of the situation, music is at the center of it all. There’s thousands of musicians throughout the world, but there’s only a select few that have made an extensive impact. Neil Diamond has been one of the most influential artists for over forty years, selling over 125 million records worldwide. His music has entertained people since the 1960s, and helped millions relive the glory days through their memories.
On Saturday, March 16, The Alliston Royal Canadian Legion staged a way back playback, with a Neil Diamond tribute concert. Joey Purpura performed in front of a sold out crowd, helping fans of all ages relive their youth for the night. Performing various songs throughout Neil Diamond’s career, including his ten number one hit singles. Cracklin Rose, Song Sung Blue, Longfellow Serenade, I’ve Been This Way Before, If You Know What I mean, Desiree, You Don’t Bring Me Flowers, America, Yesterday’s Songs, and Heartlight, are some of the songs that got the crowd up and dancing. Joey Purpura put on his best Neil Diamond impersonation, and brought back those happy days for everyone who attended.
