New Adjala Commercial–Industrial Plan

Adjala-Tosorontio’s decade plus plan to create a Commercial-Industrial area to the west of the New Tecumseth (borders and Highway 50, south of Highway 89), is heading towards fruition as early as the next regular council meeting in May.

Adjala-Tosorontio council learned Monday night that the township has meet with both officials from the New Tecumseth planning department and the Business Improvement area to discuss the township’s proposal for the area. Adjala-Tosorontio council delayed passage of the final reading of the bylaw which would create the area earlier this month.

Councillor Doug Little told council that he was glad that the township had meet with both groups from New Tecumseth and with Simcoe County before the passage of the by-law. “Good to go to the County,” he said.

Little said that he still had concerns about New Tecumseth talking about the proposed commercial area affecting the downtown of Alliston when commercial operations are currently moving to the outskirts of the town. “You see restaurants like Tim Hortons already leaving the downtown,” he said.

Adjala-Tosorontio council will hold its  next regular council meeting on May 6.
