The new constituted Everett Ratepayers Association has raised fears with current Everett councillor Tom Gauley about the possibility of increased factionalism in the township.
“We already have a township wide residents association. I just hope that we don’t see an Everett versus the rest of the township situation,” he told Dave Rose of the new association’s executive.
Rose made a delegation at council to formally inform council of the association’s formation and submit a copy of the association’s mission statement. The organization replaces People United for a Rural Everett which emerged informally during the debate over the new Official Plan Amendment for the village.
Gauley said that he wondered about the area that the association was planning to represent.
“I see that a members of the executive do not live in Everett proper or even Ward 4,” he said. He also wondered about the decision to use the word “ratepayers” rather than “residents’ which could be seen as not inclusive.
Councillor Sam Keenan said that he would not happy to see conflict between the two organizations.
