New Tecumseth council determines spending plan for 2023

The Town of New Tecumseth has decided where tax dollars will be spent for 2023.

Funds raised by the town come from taxation, reserves, development charges and various grants.

Council dipped into its reserves to lower the increase in property taxes for this year. Rates for homeowners will go up 3.29 percent. The average property owner will see their taxes increase by around $100 year over year.

User rates for water and wastewater will also increase by eight per cent beginning in April.

For 2023, capital works include:

New parks and upgrades – $2 million

Recreation facility upgrades – $1 million

Investment in roads and bridge reconstruction – $3.3 million

Fire large apparatus replacement – $1.7 million

Groundwater well optimization – $2.6 million

Maple lane pumping station rehabilitation – $4.1 million

Brendan Holly wastewater treatment facility expansion – $3.7 million

Alliston wastewater Treatment plant – $6.8 million

Tottenham Conservation Area washrooms – $1.3 million

2023 Road improvement program – $3.5 million
