Dear editor:
Needless to say, we are all very disappointed that council moved to accept staff’s recommendations to do nothing further. Despite the delay, it would be better for this issue to await the outcome of the October election so that it can be discussed by new council, and new staff, that have the residents’ confidence and best interests in mind. The current council and staff appear to have other motivations, as questions from some council members were quickly deflected by the others. This airfield does not have the capacity to replace Buttonville, the property is just not large enough, and the plan submitted to the town for the renovations describes a dirt runway the same length as the existing runway, just on the other side of the property! And it will never be able to support aircraft larger then those which have used the airport in the past, which begs the question of why this fill and remodeling of Oak Ridges Moraine land is required. If 5–10 years from now, it is found that local water has been contaminated from this fill, the current owner would likely be long gone and New Tecumseth taxpayers will be left with the cleanup bill.
