Simcoe County councillors have decided not  to give local residents to express their concerns at to the county about the proposed county Official Plan  at a special meeting before its heads to a full Ontario Municipal Board hearing.

Pentanguishene mayor Gerry Marshall asked county councillors Tuesday to look at another public  meeting before the Ontario Municipal Board holds a pre-hearing in June.

Marshall said that the board and the county had agreed to some significant changes before the hearing which required more public input.

County planner Eric Parkes said that with the decision to hold an OMB hearing on the plan that the time for simple public consultation had ended. He noted that at a June 20 meeting that members of the public would be able to indicate that they would be appearing before the upcoming board hearing.

Midland deputy mayor Stephan Kramp said that he wanted the county to indicate on its website about the option for residents to appear at the hearing.

“I think that a press release and mention on the county web site would be a courtesy to our residents,” he said.

Parkes said that he felt that discussion on the county plan was in the hands of the Ontario Municipal Board.

County councillors voted down Marshall’s request for a public meeting before the OMB hearing. The county has already had some parts of its new Official Plan approved by the province and will continue to try and see additional portions approved through mediation to reduce the time of an OMB hearing.
