On Tuesday, September 29th, the Nottawasaga Foundation presented the first $100,000 instalment of a $200,000 pledge to the Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation.
The funds will be funneled into Stevenson’s Cardiac Monitoring Campaign towards the purchase new technology that will link the Emergency Department with in-patient care.
The cardiac monitoring system tests for pulse, oxygen levels, pain, breathing and blood pressure.
The total cost of the project is $600,000, of which the foundation has raised 80 per cent (including the donation from the Nottawasaga Foundation).
Stevenson Memorial Hospital does not receive government funding toward critical equipment needs, as such, they rely heavily on the generosity of donors to meet its needs each year.
“Thanks to the generosity of the Nottawasaga Foundation, we are now even closer to achieving our goal and purchasing this critical equipment,” said Tanya Wall, Director of Philanthropy Capital Campaign for the Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation.
“Each and every patient who comes to Stevenson with chest pain, suspected heart attack, shortness of breath, severe allergic reaction or as a trauma victim is put on a cardiac monitor for continuous monitoring of heart activity, oxygen levels and blood pressure. This is critical, life-saving equipment! Our current cardiac monitors are well past their life expectancy, and are no longer supported by the supplier. Replacement parts are getting harder and harder to find,” she said.
“We are so grateful to the Nottawasaga Foundation and their generosity in supporting the funding of this desperately needed equipment,” said Margaret Barber, Chair of the Board for SMHF. “Thanks to their donation, we are well on our way to purchasing new, state of the art, cardiac monitors. This new equipment will be capable of so much more than our current systems, including the ability to measure respiratory rates continuously, higher quality resolution, and automatic recording and reporting of trend changes for heart rhythm and oxygen intake. These fantastic new monitors will allow for better monitoring of our patients, leading to improved care!”
The Nottawasaga Foundation has contributed significantly to the hospital in support of countless projects and equipment needs.
“Stevenson Memorial Hospital, the Foundation, and its many patients are extremely grateful for the steadfast and ongoing generosity of the Nottawasaga Foundation,” said Barber.
