The Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority and the Rotary Club of Barrie are looking for volunteers for the Spring Tonic Maple Syrup Festival that will be taking place at the beginning of April.
This is an opportunity for high school studies to earn some volunteer hours.
The festival is an annual event that has been held for over three decades and celebrates an important Canadian tradition – maple syrup.
Every year, the festival offers many activities like horse-drawn wagon rides, petting exotic animals, and learning outdoor skills with cadets. This year there are two new activities – dog performance and a native reptile and amphibian display.
Volunteers play a large part in the success of the festival. All proceeds from the event go towards the community and the maintenance of NVCA’s conservation areas.
The festival is looking for volunteers to help with showing visitors how maple syrup is made, interactive tree-tapping demonstrations, collecting tickets for horse-drawn wagon rides, and button making.
A brief orientation will be provided for volunteers at the beginning of each shift, and lunch will be provided for volunteers working for a full day.
The festival takes place on April 1 and 2, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Volunteers can sign up for a full day or half day.
A morning shift runs from 8:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., and the afternoon shift is 12:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. A full day shift goes from 8:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
