On Thursday, October 8th, Nottawasaga OPP officers, were on hand at three area high schools to kick-off ‘Operation Impact’. The importance of the campaign, to draw awareness to Distracted Driving and Driving while Impaired, was illustrated with through a vehicle that had recently been involved in a collision (impaired driving, on loan from JJ’s Towing). Run in conjunction with the Insurance Bureau of Canada, the OPP want to make sure ‘Operation Impact’ will have a positive affect on our young people, making them aware of life threatening behaviours behind the wheel. ‘Operation Impact’ took place at Banting Memorial High School in Alliston (pictured above); Nottawasaga Pines Secondary School in Angus; and St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School in Tottenham. “We launched this event just prior to the Thanksgiving weekend to help get the message out that we want everyone to be safe as they travel,” said OPP Constable, Harry Lawrenson. The OPP are hoping to both educate the youth on the importance of not drinking and driving – and educate parents through their children. Did you know that if you’ve caused an accident by drinking and driving your insurance is null and void? All costs – from the ambulance to the tow truck, and even the replacement costs of the vehicle – fall to the impaired driver to pay out of pocket. It’s just not worth getting behind the wheel.
