Over 100 local residents showed up last Wednesday   to the Open House at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre on the major changes coming in April for waste pickup in the county.

Wilma Bureau, Contracts & Collections Supervisor, at the County said that residents were most interested about the change in pickup dates.

She said that there had been particular interest in the new bulky pickup which will allow residents to phone the county and arrange the pickup of five large items for a flat $35.

“It has meant the end of the bulky waste pickup which some municipalities have had during the year as well as the vouchers which were offered by some municipalities for residents who took the items to the nearest landfill,” he said.

Bureau said that many residents, who didn’t have trucks, were pleased with this new option. “I know some Adjala-Tosorontio residents were pleased to have this potion of disposing of their large items.”

There has been fairly high interest in the  Open Houses elsewhere in the county. Over 110 people attended the Open House in Oro-Medonte and 240 people attended the Open House in Pentanguishene.

An Open House is planned for the Bradford West Gwillimbury Public Library this Thursday between 6 and 9 p.m. Another Open House is planned for the County of Simcoe Administration Centre in Midhurst between 9 a.m. and noon and 6 to 9 P.m. on Tuesday, March 26.

The changes to waste collection will begin on April 1.
