Dear editor:

The Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation would like to thank myFM 92.1 Radio and Zehrs Family Markets in Alliston for their support with the Champions for Care Radiothon on Friday June 20. Brian DePoe and his team from myFM 92.1 Radio were on air from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. to inform their listeners about the healthcare needs of the community and to ask for support. Donors were encouraged to become members of the Champions for Care Club and commit to becoming monthly donors. The fundraising event took donations over the phone, online at www.stevensonfoundation.ca and through individuals who came into Zehrs. Tom Coogan and the Staff of Zehrs Markets Alliston went above and beyond by not only hosting the event but by organizing a fundraising BBQ, a raffle, staff dress down day and by collecting donations at the each register. The 12 hour event also promoted awareness to the community of the financial and equipment needs of the Hospital. Patients, donors, volunteers and staff gave testimonials played on air throughout the day, speaking about the importance of supporting our local Hospital. The Provincial government funds less than 20 per cent of all equipment needs for hospitals and we look to our community to fund the rest. The Champions for Care Radiothon raised $5,515 from donations, sponsorships and individuals who joined the Champions for Care monthly donor club. The funds raised at the event will go to further the Foundation’s mission of funding critical equipment needs for the Stevenson Memorial Hospital. What really impressed us all was that even though this was a radiothon, many of our visitors came out in person to Zehrs to talk to the volunteers and to support the Hospital. The Foundation would like to thank the volunteers, sponsors, and the community who came out to support this event.

Tom Tworzyanski, SMHF Director
