Red Cross elects new executive, seeks youth representative

The Annual General Meeting of the Canadian Red Cross, Simcoe–Muskoka Branch was held at Monday, April 15 in Barrie.

After a brief presentation of the numerous programs offered by the local branch, four members were elected to the Council.

Among the four was Gail Scott, a gerontologist who currently is managing the Geriatric Program at the Mental Health Centre Penetanguishene. She has extensive experience in seniors’ health, mental health, strategic planning and community development.

Jane Sinclair was also re-elected. To the Council. Gail is a Registered Nurse with considerable experience within the health care system. She has been employed with the County of Simcoe since 1997 and currently serves as the General manager of Health and Cultural Services for the County. Her current portfolio includes management of the 911 and Emergency Management Program, Long Term Care, Paramedic Services, Library Cooperative, Museum and the Huronia Tourism Association.

Further, elected as Council member was Howard Courtney. Courtney is an ordained minister and Senior Pastor at Innisfil Community Church. He has been involved with The Canadian Red Cross as a volunteer for over 40 years, several of those as a member of the branch council, and for the last several years he has served with the Disaster Services program.

Sean Stewart, also re-elected has served, and is serving as the Volunteer Operational Lead with Disaster Services at this Branch. He is active in the security business and also has been serving as the Red Cross First Aid Liaison with the council.

The Council is looking to expand and hoping to add a Youth Representative and Community Development Coordinator to their number.
