On Saturday May 4th, the steering committee for the Relay For Life in Alliston was busy promoting the event at their annual RELAY DAY in downtown Alliston at the Farmer’s market. All were invited to drop by and get more information about the upcoming overnight, non-competitive, event. “What I love about this event is that it is so all-inclusive and family friendly” said the event Chair, Sarah Marrs-Bruce. “Anyone at any fitness level can participate and it’s great for families to do together as a way to spend quality time supporting a wonderful cause (the Canadian Cancer Society).” This will be the 9th year for the event here locally and the organizers are hopeful that this year’s total will push it past the $1.5 Million dollar mark for just this event alone. “The great success of our event is our wonderful community here in New Tecumseth, and the amazing support we receive every year from so many businesses and even individuals who make sure we have everything we need so that all money raised goes directly to where it’s needed – cancer research and patient support services,” continued Marrs-Bruce. Special this year was the introduction of special pre-sale luminaries that people can decorate and personalize themselves for those they wish to honour or remember. “This is becoming a very popular option and we can’t wait to see them lit up that night,” she said. The next chance will be the Beeton Honey Festival. As organizers continue prepping for the event coming up June 14th, you can get more information or contact the committee at www.relayforlifealliston.ca
