The Keith Gavigan Gallery celebrated its grand opening on Thursday, July 18th at 54 Queen Street South in Tottenham.
The gallery, a project under the Renew New Tecumseth umbrella was an overwhelming success with over 100 people in attendance.
The new gallery is under the direction of Dr. Keith Gavigan who has six rooms full of beautiful artwork for sale, as well as a full list of art courses that are unique to Canada. Applications for his school are available now since courses are starting in September 2013.
“Dr. Gavigan has a very interesting and successful history and he is looking forward to making Tottenham a huge cultural and arts hub,” said Lisa Morrison, Project Coordinator, Renew New Tecumseth. “We also couldn’t have achieved this success in Tottenham without the assistance of Rory McGlade, who offered his storefront to our program.”
“We would like to acknowledge our supporting partners, which include the Ontario Trillium Foundation, FOCUS Community Development Corporation, the South Simcoe Arts Council, Nottawasaga Futures, Alliston Business Improvement Association, the Beeton Tottenham Business Improvement Association, Alliston Chamber of Commerce, the Beeton Tottenham Chamber of Commerce, the Economic Development Advisory Committee, and the Business Enterprise Resource Network.
“Our program could not have gotten off the ground without the generous offering of the empty storefronts in New Tecumseth. Our valued owners are Janice Coulson, who provided 7 Paris Street in Alliston; Andy Hadjicostis, who provided 96 Victoria St, Unit #4, also in Alliston; and Rory McGlade who provided our Tottenham location.
“We have been able to fill these storefronts with a Therapeutic Yoga Instructor – Michelle Joyce who started Divinity Studios, an Artist, a Photographer, a person who makes soya candles, and a boutique for vibrant, custom made dog clothing, bedding, and accessories – Carolin Watt of All Things Poepees & Tails. Our event now welcomes a very distinctive art school, plus art gallery and library. We are very lucky to have the talent in our communities to fill these spaces and I look forward to many more.”
On behlaf of Renew New Tecumseth. Morrison would like to offer special thanks to: Bernice Augusto of the Village Pizza for providing her space and delicious food for the grand opening event.
Dr. Keith Gavigan would like to thank Jane from the Man of Yorke for providing a wonderful set of food trays in the Gallery; Russell Kelly for providing signage for the Gallery; and Bill Morrison for providing unlimited assistance in all that needed to be done.
Allan Gavigan, Keith’s son, was also invaluable in the preparation of the Gallery.
