Essa council has a number of concerns from neighbouring residents of a Thornton property whose owner wants to make a legal duplex.
Brennan Palmer who owns the property wants to move a family member into the basement of the house and to legalize the currently illegal apartment.
At the last Essa council meeting, neighbouring residents said that the previous owner had rented the apartment to a series of tenants who had created issues with noise, parking and other issues which had detracted from quality of life on the street.
“We’re concerned with transient residents living there in the future,” said Megan Craig. “We’re afraid that it will open the door to more re-zonings of houses on the street to multiple family dwellings.” Council asked planning staff to review the public comments and to bring back a proposal at a future meeting.
