Road safety initiative focuses on towing vehicles

Officers from the OPP Highway Safety Division, Nottawasaga, Huronia West and Barrie Detachments and the Simcoe-Muskoka District Health Unit were following the principles of our Provincial Traffic Safety Program (PTSP), which is an intelligence-led, results-driven program, focusing on increased police visibility, education and enforcement activities when they set up in two separate locations in the County of Simcoe for the better part of the day yesterday.

On July 24, the focus was on Commercial Motor Vehicle Inspections (CMV), specifically tow truck vehicles.

There were a total of thirty tow truck vehicle inspections with 14 vehicles taken out of service. Twelve tow trucks had their licence plates seized and removed from vehicles at the inspection station due to their unsafe conditions and 33 provincial offence notices issued ranging from Insecure Load to Unfit Vehicle charges were laid.  As well, there were provincial offence notices issued for smoking prohibitions in the workplace under the Smoke Free Ontario Act.

Overall a successful road safety enforcement initiative towards the goal of keeping our highways and roadways safe and secure for all motorists in the Province of Ontario.
