The Alliston Community Policing Association held its annual Safety Fair and Bike Rodeo on Saturday. The event aims to educate the public, especially the youth, about the importance of wearing a helmet and adhering to the rules of the road while cycling. Community partners including the Nottawasaga OPP, Alliston Fire Fighters Association, the Simcoe–Muskoka District Health Unit and the Alliston Lions Club also took part in the event that ran for several hours in the Alliston Mills Shopping Centre parking lot. The event was well attended with participating youth getting a chance to interact with local police and fire fighters; getting properly fitted for their helmets; zig-zagging through an obstacle course that simulates the hazards of the open road; and even getting a chance to win prizes, including brand new helmets. Events such as this are just one of the many ways the Alliston Community Policing Association supports the youth of our community.
