The Beeton Stingers Novice Rep team finished their season last week with an 8-1 loss to Erin. It was a tough series but they played with heart, determination and never gave up. WAY TO GO STINGERS!!
With the end of the season we reflect on what a great one it was. Right from the beginning it was unsure how this little team from Beeton was going to do, having to play in the AE division against larger centers. With only 11 skaters and a goalie the odds were against them. It became clear early in the season that this team was the ‘Little Engine That Could’ and with HUGE hearts, determination and a GREAT COACH, they were winning game after game surprising everyone.
December took them to the International Silver Stick qualifier in Wasaga Beach, where they continued to play hard and made it to the final round. Even though they lost, it earned them a ticket to the finals in St. Clair Shores, Michigan. The trip to Michigan was an experience they will hopefully never forget. They played hard and showed us all that how big a team they really were, although they didn’t win but held their heads high as it was amazing that they made it there. At the end the regular season the Beeton Stingers were in 2nd place overall. The playoff had them drop back into the BB-D Central Division, playing Erin, Acton and Schomberg. They played Acton in the semi-finals and put them out in 3 games straight, they were going for the championship. The finals pitted them against Erin. It was a hard series with both teams playing hard. No one ever quit and after the last game they all held their heads high, they had made it to the finals.
The should all be proud of how well they did. Thank you to the local sponsors Keith Morris Masonry, Pat Jordan-Royal LePage RCR Realty for their great support. A big thank you to Keith Dobbin of Ontario Water Werx Inc. for providing the team jerseys, which help to unite the team and show that they meant business. Also thank you to all the other sponsors and everyone else for all the help and support along the way. Thank you to the Coaching staff Head Coach Ted Scovell, Assistant Coach Pete Newman, Trainer Keith Dobbin, Assistant Trainer Brad Sceviour and Manager Josh Aultman for all their hard work and dedication. Last but not least, thank you to the Beeton Stingers Novice Rep team for showing all of us that no matter how small of the town Beeton is, with lots of hard work, heart and determination they are a team to watch out for.
