In October last year, the Barrie and Area Victim Crisis Assistance and Referral Service (VCARS), in partnership with the Ontario Provincial Police Nottawasaga Detachment, presented an education day to two hundred seniors at the Nottawasaga Inn Resort in Alliston. The outcome of the day was a new program called “Seniors Mentoring Seniors” to provide services to New Tecumseth residents.
Census data shows that in four years there will be more seniors than children in Canada. Programs like ‘Seniors Mentoring Seniors’ can make a difference to the lives of many.
‘Seniors Mentoring Seniors’ is off to a good start. The Board of Directors has been established and our first volunteer training session has been completed.
To meet the growing needs of local seniors we need more volunteers.
Do you have skills and knowledge that you want to share? Do you have the time to visit a client’s home to share a hobby, read to the client, assist with letter writing or provide music appreciation?
Do you need a mentor? Support is only a phone call away.
