Council has approved a request from the New Tecumseth Public Library that Sept. 9–13th be declared ‘One Book, One New Tecumseth Week’.
Marylaine Canavan, representing the NTPL, spoke to council at Monday nights meeting urging the Town to consider the request to encourage an “adult reading culture” and “build a sense of community”.
Already a successful program in Waterloo and Cambridge, ‘One Book’ is a community-wide reading event. In 2013, the book is ‘Above All Things’ by Canadian author Tanis Rideout.
Rideout will be in New Tecumseth, on Tuesday, October 22nd at the Gibson Centre on Tupper Street in Alliston, for a meet and greet and book signing.
Canavan challenged councillors to not only read the book themselves, but to “bring the largest number of constituents” to the book signing.
From the rest of the community, she asked just three things: “Red the book; bring a friend’ talk about the book”.
With something for everyone ‘Above All Things’ explores “more than a mountain,” said Canavan. “It’s about personal regrets, relationships and following your dreams.”
Your own copy of ‘Above All Things’ can be purchased at any of the three library branches in New Tecumseth.
