Several last–minute additions to municipal election ballot

As of 2 p.m. today (Friday, Sept. 12th, 2014 at 2 p.m.) the Town of New Tecumseth website was updated to include all those running in the October 27th Municipal Election.
There were more than a few surprises to the list, including two new candidates for mayor.
Kevin Kemp, an Alliston-based lawyer, and Damon Corbet, volunteer firefighter, will be listed on the ballot for the position of mayor, along with the current deputy mayor, Rick Milne, and Ward 1 councillor Bob Marrs, who filed on January 2nd, 2014 and March 21st, 2014, respectively.
For the position of deputy mayor there were no last minute surprises and the three registered candidates – Jamie Smith, Glen O’Leary and Peter Barbati – will all vie for your votes on Election Day.
Ward 1 also remains unchanged with Wayne Noye, Fabio Lamanna, Marc Biss, and Glen Ackerman on the ballot.
In Ward 2 Frank Rogers also registered today (September 12th). He will run against Laurie Mortimer, Gordon McInnes, and Michael Beattie.
In Ward 3, Cam Simone and Paul Foster are challenging incumbent JJ Paul Whiteside for his position at the council table, and in Ward 4 incumbent Fran Sainsbury will be running against Rob Katzman.
In Ward 5, incumbent Donna Jebb, who had previously been unchallenged, will run against Frank Forrest who submitted his application 15 minutes before the deadline.
There was also a late submission in Ward 6, Beeton, currently held by incumbent Richard Norcross. He will be challenged by Terry Garvin and as of today Doug Kowalinski as well.
Ward 7 has also become hotbed of activity, with four new faces vying for incumbent Bruce Haire’s (who has chosen not to run in this election) spot. Shira Harrison McIntyre, Jess Prothero and two late additions – Guy Bonney, who registered on Sept. 9th, and Glen Wiley, who registered on Sept. 10th will all be listed on the ballot.
In Ward 8 incumbent James (Jim) Stone, who registered on Sept. 5th will face Chris Ross and Bo Niederhuber who both registered early on.
Stay tuned to The Times for in-depth interviews with all 32 candidates in the weeks to come.
Plan to attend our All–Candidate Meet & Greet on Thursday, October 2nd from 6–9 p.m. at the Beeton Arena (upstairs) to meet your Ward candidates in person.
