County council has approved the transfer of funds from the Homes’ Contingency Reserve to support the emergency purchase and installation of lighting fixtures in the resident rooms and hallways at Simcoe Manor.
In order to meet the new lighting guidelines set out by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care the upgrades will cost the County $124,484.
Simcoe Manor, a 126-bed Long Term Care Home in Beeton, had previously received upgrades to interior lighting in 2012 when the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care approved a one time grant of $40,000 – as there was no overhead lighting in the rooms initially.
In December 2012, Simcoe Manor had a compliance inspector from the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care on site for three days, following a complaint regarding lighting levels.
On January 3, the administrator of Simcoe Manor received the Ministry’s inspection report whereby a Compliance Order was issued directing the Home to enhance the lighting in all resident bedrooms and all resident corridors by March 29, 2013.
The lighting upgrades will be funded from the County’s Homes’ Contingency Reserve.
