The Annual General Meeting of The Stevenson Memorial Hospital Corporation was held on Tuesday, June 19, at the Millpond Café in Alliston.
Scott Anderson, Board Chair, welcomed everyone to the 2012 meeting and introduced both the elected and ex-officio Board members. He also welcomed the Hospital’s Auditor, Glen Ventrcek from BDO Canada LLP.
Annette Jones, President & CEO introduced guest speaker – Cyndi Desjardins who provided a presentation entitled “Finding Your Purpose.” Ms. Desjardins spoke as her experience after being diagnosed with necrotizing fasciitis (otherwise known as flesh eating disease) and how it altered her life forever.
The President & CEO provided her report which provided an overview of the Hospital’s achievements for the past year and future plans.
Ken Burns provided a presentation on the Foundation’s achievements over the past year. He also advised that Digital Mammography Campaign successfully raised over $1.2M due to the support of the community.

Scott Anderson called upon Michael Martin, Treasurer of SMH Board and Chair of the Finance Committee.
A copy of the audited financial statements for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2012 was circulated with the agenda. Glen Ventrcek of BDO Canada LLP, Chartered Accountants, was in attendance at the meeting to answer any questions. The firm was reappointed to audit the Hospital’s 2013 books.
Anderson then called upon Paul Farley, Chair of the Nominations Committee, and by vote, the Hospital’s current Directors, Alan Dresser, Cathy Morden, David Purvis, and John Swinden, were re-elected for a further 3 year term.
Anderson then recognized the last Honorary Corporation Member of Stevenson Memorial Hospital – the late Mr. John (Jack) Lewis in recognition of his 21 years of service on the Board of Directors and former Board Chair.
“Advisory Members play an essential role in providing feedback to Stevenson — feedback that is truly appreciated and greatly valued by the Hospital,” he said.
Advisory Members are non-voting members who are entitled to attend Advisory Membership Meetings and the Annual General Meetings; receive the annual audited financial statements; nominate individuals for consideration for election to the Board or appointment as non-director members of certain Board Committees; receive periodic and timely communication; and be considered for appointment to certain Board Committees.
Advisory Members were thanked for their continued support and asked to encourage friends and family to consider applying to become an Advisory Member.
Information on how to become an Advisory Member was available at the meeting and also posted on the Hospital’s website at www.smhosp.on.ca
