On September 20, 13 very lucky students from the Social Justice Club of Monsignor J.E. Ronan Catholic School attended a very special event called We Day. We Day is a very inspiring event that started with Marc and Craig Keilburger the founders of ‘Free the Children’. Marc and Craig Keilburger, and other speakers at We Day such as, Demi Lovato, Molly Burke, Spencer West, Martin Luther King Jr., Chris Hadfield and tons more, encouraged children at We Day to volunteer their time to help children in our neighbourhoods as well as children around the world to get an education, have clean water and access to good health.
After experiencing We Day, students at Monsignor J.E. Ronan Catholic School, were inspired to raise $10,000 to build a school – but we can’t do this alone. So, we approached schools in our area and Father F.X. O’Reilly, Holy Family and St. Paul’s (normally schools we compete against in sports) will be joining us in a team effort to raise $10,000. Each school now only has to raise $2,500 to meet our goals. At Monsignor Ronan, our goal is to raise this amount over the next two years. This year we have planned ‘Spirit Days’, such as Toonie Twin Day, a loose change drive, Valentine’s Day candy grams, a bake sale, raffle draws and the biggest event will be our Christmas Talent Show! We can’t wait to get started.
Halloween is also just around the corner, and it’s time for our ‘Halloween for Hunger’ event, also known as the ‘We Scare Hunger Campaign’. That means students will be out “‘Trick-or-Treating’ for non-perishable food items, for the Our Town Food Bank. If we miss your house on Hallowe’en night, you can drop off your items on November 1st at Monsignor J.E. Ronan Catholic School, located at 10 Lilly Street East in Beeton.
Thank you for your support us and helping to turn “Me” into “We!”
