The Nottawasaga OPP were conducting a R.I.D.E. program on April 14, at 3:02 p.m. at the intersection of 20 Sideroad and the 9th Line in Essa Township.
Police noticed a black Mazda Protégé approach the R.I.D.E, the vehicle changed direction by turning into a driveway then continued in the opposite direction eastbound on the 20th Sideroad. Police engaged in a suspect apprehension pursuit (SAP) eastbound along the 20th Sideroad. The pursuit continued southbound on Line 10 and then turned west onto County Road 21 and north onto Line 9 with the vehicle failing to stop for police, travelling at high rates of speed reaching up to 160 km/hour at one point in time and failing to stop at several stop signs.
Police utilized a spike belt to attempt to slow the vehicle safely, with two flat tires the vehicle turned east on the 5 Sideroad and then south on County Road 27.
At this point, officers used their police vehicles to slow the vehicle and move it off the roadway; the suspect vehicle collided with a police cruiser in the process and came to rest on County road 27.
The male suspect was taken into custody and held for an April 15 bail hearing. Charged is 49 year old Oro-Medonte resident, Gary Mores. He is charged with the following charges under the Criminal Code of Canada: Flight from Police; Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle; Resist Peace Officer.
There is a charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance (Cocaine) under the Controlled Drug and Substances Act. As well, there are three charges under the Highway Traffic Act: Operate an Unsafe Vehicle; Drive a Motor Vehicle-No currently validated permit; Use plate not authorized for the vehicle.
Additionally, there was one charge of Operate a Motor Vehicle without insurance under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.
