Dear editor:
For the past nine years, the South Simcoe Arts Council has offered the perfect opportunity for its community to perform for each other and the general public in a celebratory and educational event. Music students of all ages from all over the County gather in Alliston and Bradford to showcase their talents. Professional musicians from Ontario listen to the performers of all ages and then give positive adjudications, both written and oral. Every entrant also receives a certificate with a level (Gold Silver or Bronze), according to their performance at that time.
This event promotes the opportunity to showcase the talent, discipline and love of music of our local musicians. It is truly a celebration of music and a very positive experience for all involved; performers, parents and teachers. All music performances are free to the public and are very entertaining and informative to watch. Senior piano performance of Grade 9 RCM up to ARCT level are held at the Knox Church, Alliston in the afternoons and evenings of Thursday and Friday April 4 and 5. These concert-quality piano performances are free of charge and not to be missed!
Over $3000 in Scholarship Awards are given out every year. All awards are donated by local individuals and businesses. The Awards Concert includes top performances from all levels. To celebrate our 10th Anniversary, we will be featuring past winners as well. Howard Lopez will be the Master of Ceremonies for our Spotlight this year. Admission to the Spotlight Concert is $5 and kids are free.
The Festival Program can be picked up at the SSAC Office at the Gibson Centre (3rd floor). A list of Senior Performances can be viewed on line. www.southsimcoeartscouncil.com. Please call Festival chair, Megan Newcombe at 905 729-3254 or the SSAC office 705 435-2378 if you have any questions.
This festival is a volunteer-driven, non-profit event and only successful because of our generous sponsors and hard-working volunteers. Thank you for your contribution to another successful year!
