SSAC Music Festival celebrates milestone

The South Simcoe Arts Council celebrated its Music Festival’s 10th Anniversary with a music concert and awards ceremony at the Knox Presbyterian Church in Alliston. The music concert and award ceremony featured performances by those who performed at the music festival, and those who were nominated for an award. In order to be eligible for an award, participants were required to perform a minimum of three times during the festival. There were three categories: Vocal, Piano and Instrumental. The winners from each category are:

Vocal Awards:

• Junior Vocal – Sophia Fracassi (First), Madeline Kokol (Second), Robyn MacDonald (Third).

• Intermediate Vocal – Amelia DePiero (First), Evan Morin (Second).

• Senior Vocal – Katelyn Bird (First), Alessandra Garzon (Second), Lindsay Chubb (Third).

• Open Vocal – Catherine Wilson (First).

• Dr. Mary Hookey Female Vocal Award – Alessandra Garzon.

• Green Briar Male Chorus Male Vocal Award – Evan Morin.

• Community Ensembles Awards – Music in Motion Choir (First), St. Andrews Youth Choir (Second).

• Piano Partners Duet Club Duet Award – Karin & Hannah Watson, Judah & Aaron Laing.

• Joyful Sounds Composition Award – Pamela Cioroch.

• Howard Lopez Scholarship Award – Thomas Torok & Pamela Cioroch.

• Provincial Candidates (sponsored in part by Dr. Sunyatta Guild) – Nissita Francis, Namrata Francis, Tabitha Johnson (Piano), Amelia DePiero, Alessandra Garzon (Voice).

Piano Awards:

• Junior Piano – Charlotte Ens (First), Connor Taylor (Second), Sydney Puri (Third).

• Intermediate Piano – Maya Burhanpurkar (First), Phoebe Wang (Second), Emma Barks (Third – tie), Nissita Francis (Third – tie).

• Senior Piano – Gregory Vandikas (First), Thomas Torok (Second), Pamela Cioroch (Third).

• Open Piano – Tabitha Johnson (First).

• Joyful Sounds Senior Piano Scholarship – Kristine Molinaro.

Instrumental Awards:

• Primary Instrumental – Alan Wang (First), Lisa Acatrinei (Second), Sadie Cunningham (Third).

• Junior Instrumental – Ashley Hsing (First), Danushi Mediwake (Second), Mason Gooch (Third).

• Intermediate Instrumental – James Law (First), Grace Constable (Second), Victoria Culnan (Third).
