The Tottenham Steam are still undefeated in the Greater Metro Hockey League playoff run after hammering the Alliston Coyotes 10-1 in game two of their best of seven, round three playoff series.
The Steam entered the playoffs as the top team in the division and quickly dispatched the Colborne Chiefs in three games in the first round of playoff action.
Round two saw the Tottenham squad up against the Meaford Knights and again the Steam put a quick finish to the series winning in three straight.
If the start of the round three contest between Tottenham and Alliston is any indicator of the Steam’s dominance on the ice this season, the series could be over very quickly.
The series got under way on Saturday (March 5) on Steam home ice at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre.
After playing to a 2-2 tie in the first period it became a runaway game when Tottenham scored three in the second frame then shut out the Coyotes in the third period scoring two more unanswered goals to end the game 7-2 and take game one to open the series.
The teams returned to the Tottenham arena on Monday night for game two of the series.
This time the game turned into a blowout when the Steam started by scoring three unanswered goals in the first period then followed up with six more in the second before the Coyotes could respond with one of their own.
The third period ended with the Coyotes scoring the final one to make it a 10-1 game and a 2-0 series for the Tottenham squad.
Steam forward Stepan Timofeyev picked up the hat trick scoring one in the first period and the first two of the second frame.
Game three of the series was scheduled for Tuesday in Alliston (results not available at press time).
Game four is also scheduled for an Alliston home game on Thursday, March 9.
If necessary, game five of the series will be back in Tottenham on Friday, March 11, with an 8 p.m. start.
Game six is slated for Saturday, March 12, in Alliston.
The puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m.
