The Tottenham Steam hosted the Tillsonburg Hurricanes at the Tottenham Community Centre arena on Saturday (Jan. 14) night. The Steam took an early lead but gave it up in the third period and had to settle for an 8-7 loss to the visitors.

The Tottenham Steam narrowly missed out on a win Saturday (Jan. 14) when they gave up a third period loss to the Tillsonburg Hurricanes at the Tottenham Community Centre.
The Steam went ahead in the first period on goals from Viacheslav Chegrintcev, Ruskin Hughes, and Marcus Kvernes to lead the game 3-2.
The second period got started with a shorthanded goal from Hughes at just 3:39 into the period.
Outscoring the Hurricanes 3-2 for the period on two more goals from Hughes and Ryan Sutton, the teams entered the final period with the Steam leading 6-4.
It was the third period that caused the Tottenham team problems when Tillsonburg managed to score two goals by the 1:35 mark to tie the game at six.
Another Steam goal from Lukas Moravsky put Tottenham ahead just two minutes later.
The game ended when Tillsonburg scored a short-handed goal then went ahead late in the period to take the game 8-7.
After that game, Tottenham’s Viacheslav Chegrintcev is in the number five spot in points in the League with 78, and number four in scoring with 40 goals after 26 games.
The Steam currently have an 8-23 record for the season including three overtime losses.
The Niagara Whalers are in the number one spot in the League with 63 points followed by the New Tecumseth Civics with 60 points and Parry Sound with 59 in the points column.
The Steam will be back on home ice this Saturday, Jan. 21, to host the Niagara Whalers at the Tottenham Community Centre. Game time is 7:30 p.m
Steam wins in OT
The Steam pulled off a big win over the North York Renegades Jan. 9 at the Tottenham Community Centre arena after coming back from a 2-1 deficit in the first period.
North York opened the scoring in the game at the 5:56 mark in the first frame.
Tottenham’s Dmitri Russu tied it up at the mid-way mark on a power play opportunity.
The Renegades went ahead on a late goal with 25 seconds left on the clock for the period.
The second period saw the North York team score midway in the period.
Russu got his second of the game at 13:22 to close the gap and put the Steam back in the game with one period left to play.
Steam forward Viacheslav Chegrintcev got the tying goal in the third period and the Tottenham defence managed to shut down the North York attack for the rest of the period making it a 3-3 game when the final buzzer sounded to force overtime.
Chegrintcev got the winning goal to give the Steam the 4-3 win.
